10 tips to gain awesome hypnosis skills

10 tips to gain awesome hypnosis skills

Written by Dr Kate Beaven-Marks

At the start of a new year, we often get to think about learning something, whether something new, or adding to what we already have. But, in the hypnosis world, it can be a bit like navigating a minefield trying to work out what is the right training for you. So, in this blog, we are going make it really easy for you, wherever you are on your hypno journey.

“I am new to hypnosis”

We love people who are new to hypnosis as it gives us the opportunity to help you gain relevant knowledge and develop good skills, right from the start. It is far easier to learn from fresh, than for you to have to work to let go of unhelpful ways of working.

Tip 1 – Define how you want to use hypnosis

Right now, do you want to work with friends and family to help them make changes in their lives? If so, our Hypnotherapy 101 course gives you superb foundation training, covering everything from what hypnosis is, through to delivering a whole hypnotherapy session.

Are you perhaps committed to becoming a hypnotherapist this year? If so, you could dive straight into our Live Online Hypnotherapy Certification. This takes you from complete beginner all the way through hypnotherapy practitioner over just a few months. Our strategically formulated blend of videos and manuals and interactive live training helps you get the best possible learning.

Or, are you more interested in having fun with friends? If so, then the Rapid Hypnosis 101 and Stage Hypnosis 101 courses together give you some great content to get started with.

To enhance your starting point, you might also like to pay attention to how your interact with others, with our Improve Your Communication course.

Tip 2 – Use what you learn, as you learn it

Whichever route you take, practice it as soon as possible after learning it. Not only does this help you remember what you are learning, it means that you add to a foundation of knowledge and skills. Further learning then sits on this.

You can get added value from your training by making use of what you are learning to enhance your own life. You can use our course which teaches you how to Learn Self-Hypnosis, and then use life enhancing content, such as from our Ego Strengthening 101 course. Not only do you immediately benefit, but you also get a greater insight of what these techniques feel like and that can enhance your use of these approaches.

Tip 3 – Reflect after each session

Every person that you work with is another lesson. Rather than think of whether something did, or didn’t work as intended, consider the experience. Think about what you did, why you did that, what you were expecting, what happened and what might have influenced the outcome. You could also consider what you might do in a similar situation the next time.

If, when you reflect, you find it is more of a general confidence issue, then you might like to give yourself a boost, and our Become a Confidence Hypnotist is great for that. Even better, you can use many of these concepts to help your friends or clients boost their own confidence. Nothing like getting great value from a course!

“I have some training, but I am keen to learn”

Once you have some knowledge and skills it can be easy to just stick with that, and keep on using what you have learned. Yet, learning something new can widen your comfort zone and either reignite that initial hypno spark, or give you a boost.

Tip 4 – Identify your gaps

Take a little time to explore how you have been using your hypno skills recently. What knowledge or skills could you have done with that would have taken your hypno work to the next level? For example, you might have learned a few basic suggestibility tests during your initial training. Now is the ideal time learn our 16 powerful tests with our Hypnotic Suggestibility Testing 101 course.

Are you getting the most engagement from your clients, or do you wish that you could find out how to get them working more effectively during your sessions. If so, then check out our Engaging Your Therapy Client course and discover how to use both conversational and hypnosis strategies to increase how your clients work with you.

Perhaps you are presently comfortable with your knowledge and skills level, but are looking for ways to build your business. If so, our Monetise Your Therapy Practice course gives you some valuable advice.

Tip 5 – Optimise your time

On occasion, you may find that you have limited time to work with someone, but still want to do something effective. Our Rapid Fire Rapid Inductions course teaches you how to quickly hypnosis and our Rapid Therapy Approaches course gives you 17 fast, highly beneficial therapy techniques that you can use with your clients.

Tip 6 – One topic at a time

Rather than have a few courses on the go at a time, it can help to really focus on one course at a time, to extract maximum learning. If you don’t have a lot of time, some of our shorter courses deliver key skills and knowledge quickly. For example, ‘Goal Setting for Hypnotherapists’ helps you to laser focus your therapy work.

“I am already experienced, what can I do now?”

Tip 7 – Focus in

You are likely to have a broad understanding of the key topics. So now is the time that you can focus in more depth on individual topics. For example, you may already be comfortable using simple metaphors. Our Hypnotherapy Metaphors 101 course goes deeper into how you can create change with hypnotic stories.

The Working With Beliefs will give you the tools to understand beliefs in greater depth, as well as how to stop unhelpful beliefs and both generate and integrate new, healthy and positive beliefs.

Tip 8 – Do the opposite

If you are presently using hypnosis for the fun stuff, have a look at our hypnotherapy courses, such as Hypnotherapy 101, or, for greater detail, the Live Online Certification.

Are you already a hypnotherapist? If so, now is the time to consider adding some fun stuff, such as Stage Hypnosis 101, to your repertoire of skills. It will give you some great tools when socialising and can be another way of promoting how flexible and effective hypnosis is.

Something also performance related is the delivery of hypnosis presentations and demonstrations. These are a great way of promoting your business and getting yourself recognised in your community. You can enhance your skills with our HypnoDemo course.

If your work is mainly one-to-one, then you might find it helpful to learn how to deliver Group Hypnosis Online. This is another fantastic way of promoting your business and reaching people that you might not otherwise connect with.

Tip 9 – Set yourself apart from your competitors

We do have some very special courses relating to approaches we have created in-house, so your competitors are unlikely to have been taught them during their initial training. Now is a great time for you to discover the Hypno-Dough Technique, our tool for creating powerful subconscious change. It is particularly awesome for those clients who find it challenging to express themselves with words.

here is also our fabulous Performance Palace Protocol, which is a self-contained therapy approach for dealing with any type of performance anxiety.

Finally, taking your skill level to new heights, is our incredible Hypno-EMDR course. This teaches you how to blend hypnosis and EMDR together. Not only is this a superb approach for dealing with trauma effectively and processing negative memories and events, it is particularly helpful when working with stress, phobias, anger, weight and performance issues, as well as being particularly useful as a tool for working with people who don’t want to be in formal hypnosis.

Tip 10 – Remember to look after you!

Finally, whatever your level training, taking time to look after yourself is incredibly important. If you have some awesome skills, it makes sense to benefit from them. Even better, when you learn about self-care, such as with our ‘Self-Care for Therapists’ you can then teach many of these techniques to your friends or clients.
